Frank

There's Brian and Carl Wilson. Yes, I know Dennis was in the group but only because mom laid a guilt trip on the other two.

Carol

The Everly Brothers. Listen to their version of Love Hurts. Perfect.

Cathy

I love The Kinks...I'm singing the song "Lola" in my head now... :-)

Joe

Everlys. Yes. I was thinking of them, too. Love Hurts. All I Have To Do Is Dream. Let It Be Me. Til I Kissed Ya. Love those guys. Saw them at Wolf Trap around 7 or 8 years ago. Still really good. Under my narrow, self-serving criteria I didn't count them because they weren't in a larger band like the Kinks...although, sure, they had a band around them. They're probably more influential in rock. Kinks get plenty of crass commericals these days, though.

Bob

I have to confess to being not as Kinks-aware as I ought. I have the double-live record (One From the Road?), Low Budget and Give The People What They Want.

But I'm going to rectify this situation. Today, if possible. Where should I start? Village Green? That's always the one that comes up when discussing rock masterpieces...

Joe

Yes, Village Green...but as I recall it took some getting used to. It's full of these strange little songs like Phenomenal Cat that make you a bit unsettled and worried that someone else might be listening. It takes some time to build. Old Ray has the penchant for the old ways, of china shops and Tudor houses and antique tables, and escaping the modern world...and that's not really for everybody. So I'd go straight to Lola vs. Powerman and work backwards to Village Green. I've got a Rhino big hits collection from their 64-68 period which is great...but I now want to mine their individual recordings from that same period.

Yes, Ray and Dave have a hard time being in the same room, but the biggest thing prevening a reunion is Daves stroke from a couple of years ago. Ray is a perfectionist, and Dave, while he's made a remarkable recovery, just isn't the same Dave. And yes, its a shame, but that is a deal breaker.

Speaking bands with brothers, the Beach Boys with Brian, Carl & Denny Wilson. I have to disagree with the comment above by Frank, Denny was a decent singer - check out "Pacific Ocean Blue" - & a good drummer live. I saw them in Philly around '73 & they kicked butt! Denny was, also, the only real surfer.

Then there's my personal favorite: the Allman Bros., including Duane (sorely missed) & Gregg.
